Our MyEsthi App was recently Featured on the WebPuppies blog in Singapore. To read the full article click on the link here...or to read the section about us, keep reading below! Thank you Kristine for the beautiful write up! https://webpuppies.com.sg/blogposts/o2o-the-shift-from-offline-to-online/ Skin Consultation Mobile App Amber Budd Peterson, is the CEO/founder of Amber Budd Skincare, a US-based spa which typically does in-person services. Back in November, her team had launched MyEsthi, a mobile app that has proven to be especially helpful right now. “MyEsthi lets you meet with a licensed beauty professional to help navigate your way to a routine that will create great change in your skin rather than going to a big box store and getting a salesperson to help you.” “Online presents the challenge of not being able to see people's skin to really make great recommendations to help them achieve their goals. I developed our app specifically for that - we have a beautiful user interface and the video call feature allows us to see the client, and spend time getting to know them, which in turn allows us to make the right recommendations for them.” Amber says that her business is going very well and that what she has been learning and experiencing has been a time of great growth stretching mentally. “We have really wonderful and knowledgeable estheticians doing consultations on the app, and we will be launching the Apple (iOS) version in about 2-3 weeks. (we started with Google Play, and really ramped up production of iOS when we had to shut down the spa just over a month ago)” “Our clients still need great skincare, and many have more time to commit to their routines now, so we are hearing that people are seeing the best their skin has ever been. It's great to be able to keep people working right now, in an industry that is heavily affected by the shutdowns, we were able to pivot pretty seamlessly due to the fact that we already had the Google Play version available.”

  • Interview with Jacob Moore, founder of NoStigmas

About a month ago, I had the chance to hop on a Google Hangout with the founder of NoStigmas, Jacob Moore. I had the chance to ask him some questions about NoStigmas, how he prioritizes his mental health while working in the Acting/Voiceover fields while running a non-profit (the guy has a LOT going on!) NoStigmas is our brand partner this quarter. I'll be donating a portion of every product sale to them, as well as running the NOT5k on August 19th. Not signed up yet? Click here to register ***please note: while the below is not an exact transcript, I took a ton of notes while we were speaking, and did my best to use Jake’s words*** ***Also of note, Jake and I have known each other for about 12-15 years so I did cut out some of the "catching up" stuff*** Amber: “Hi friend! How are you? It’s so good to see you! So tell me a little bit about what you want my clients and the people who will be donating to know about No Stigmas?” Jake: “It’s good to see you too! I’m good! Well, we’re really proud that we have just about 65,000 organic users (of the NoStigmas community site www.nostigmas.org) now. We are at a point where we now have a blueprint with the hub of the main office personel, so that events and local communities can have their events look however they want it to look. Every community is different, so each event can be too” A: “So there’s you, and Elizabeth, how many other people are working full time for NoStigmas right now?” J: “We have 3 people on the payroll, but the majority of everything is handled by our volunteers. Those of us on payroll are here helping to facilitate and coordinate events all over the world, like the walk you’re doing!” A: “That’s awesome! Self Care is such a buzz-word right now, How important do you believe it is to mental health?Tell me a little bit about how you prioritize your mental well-being.” J: “It’s the first thing every. single. day! I wake up at 5am to give myself time to care for myself. I do about 20 minutes of meditation, 20 minutes of writing and 20 minutes of exercise...sometimes a little more, depends on if I do tae kwon do or not, that’s an hour and a half. No phone, no tv, no computer, and it sets me up for the rest of my day. It’s one hour out of 24” A: “Social media has lent itself to a society that always wants to look perfect...especially younger people. You’ve been really open about your struggles with mental health in the past, and I want to thank you for that,( ***insert Amber crying here***)because it encouraged ME to be more open about my struggle with anxiety and ocd. What compelled you, in this current appearance of perfection society, to be to open and show your humanity in such a real and raw way?” J: ”I spent so much of my life pretending to be an image of what I saw as perfection, but inside I was dying. I wasn’t connecting - I call it time travelling - you’re in a place but your head is somewhere else. I wasn’t happy and I felt like life was passing me by. I was on a flight to argentina and I met someone who became a mentor to me, and I realized I could have both. The moment I opened up and became vulnerable, I started having real relationships, the thing I had been searching for all those years. And the thing is, once you experience those real connections with people, nothing else is as good or acceptable, and I realized I could have a bigger impact on someone else.” A: “What has been your biggest challenge in running NoStigmas?” J: “Trying to maintain stability and consistency. It’s easy for me to coast, so I had to learn to create systems. And it took me about 5 years to learn that I can’t do it all myself, I don’t always know whats best, and when I hand it over to someone else, I’m not the pinch point anymore. I’m not the one getting in the way of growth.” A: **I’ll be honest now, I don’t remember what question I asked to get this response, but I just loved it….*** J: “There is power and strength in vulnerability. I get up onstage and sometimes I’m talking to hundreds, thousands of people, and it's like, I’ve crafted this message in a way, being vulnerable, to get up there and just go “I dare you to judge me!” A: “Thank you so much for taking time to chat with me, I appreciate you” J: “well, thank you!” Amber’s follow up note: I’m so proud of my friend. He has been a huge influence on my ability to speak openly about my own struggles with anxiety and OCD. He was the first person I saw being so open and transparent about their personal life, while crushing it their professional life. Thank you so much Jake for being a beacon of light in a sometimes lonely feeling world. Jacob’s Bio Taken from NoStigmas.org (you can also find him on IMDB ;) Jacob Moore is a wellness coach, mental health speaker and the founder of NoStigmas, a social movement for mental health equality. Having lost his father to suicide at age 6, Jacob grew up plagued by questions and anxiety. In high school Jacob developed panic disorder and eventually clinical depression. Throughout his teens and 20′s he struggled to find a "cure" with the aid of several medical professionals and 20 various combinations of pharmaceutical drugs. Ultimately, he discovered a whole-person approach to mental wellness, which included: nutrition, fitness, professional and peer support. Wanting to give back, Jacob created a community called NoStigmas where people could share their story and learn about mental health without feeling alone or ashamed. The community grew and in 2011, NoStigmas became recognized as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity. #quarterlypartner #amberbuddatelier #amberbuddskincare #mentalhealth

  • How to prepare for your Spray Tan

Ahhhh a sunkissed glow. Something I never understood before April 2021 when I got my first spray tan. Being as fair as I am, I avoid the sun like the plague, and frankly, I was always afraid of turning the dreaded orange after a spray tan. However, I found a company who helped guide us through the process, and how each undertone has a different spray tan solution which works best for them. ...and y'all. I was hooked. Hooked on that {faux} sunkissed glow. There is, however, just a little prep and post care that can help your tan apply more evenly, and extend the life of your tan as well. Pre-Tan 1) Do any shaving, waxing, mani/pedi etc at least 24 hours prior to your tan 2) Exfoliate your skin with an oil free exfoliant ~24 hours prior to your appointment 3) the day of your appointment, avoid applying lotions, perfumes, deodorant...anything that could create a barrier between your spray tan and your skin Going to Your Appointment 1) wear dark, loose clothing - a loose tank dress is a great option if you can! 2) you'll get undressed to YOUR comfort. If you want to go naked, by all means! If you want to wear the provided disposable undergarments, that's great too! If you want to wear an old bikini or pair of undies from home, awesome! 3) don't get wet or too sweaty during the developing time of your tan. Your artist will tell you what that time is. To Prolong your Tan 1) use the recommended aftercare products - they're formulated to help you keep your faux glow as long as possible 2) don't shave or scrub your skin until you're ready to start losing some tan 3) hydrate, hydrate, hydrate - again, with the recommended products if possible, but definitely use lotion daily! Ready for your Faux Glow? We can't wait to see you!

  • Aromatherapy and Essential Oils

Aromatherapy, Essential Oils, Fragrance…there’s so much information to share, and so many things I love about it, that I almost didn’t write this as a single post, but a series. Somehow, through many cups of coffee, and a few bottles glasses of wine, I’ve managed to compress the information The very BASIC you need to know: *Don’t use essential oils on your skin undiluted. Use a carrier oil to allow for best absorption and least chance for skin irritation (exception to this is Tea Tree oil, lavender oil, rose geranium oil, and sandalwood oil. These are widely recognized as safe to use directly on the skin, sparingly) *the best carrier oils are jojoba oil, coconut oil, safflower or grapeseed oil, almond oil *Do not EVER use undiluted on babies or small children *to test the purity of your oil, place a single drop onto a sheet of construction paper. When it evaporates, the less visible the ring that’s left behind, the more pure the oil *Essential Oils can last up to 10 years if stored correctly. (in their dark bottles, cap on tightly, in a dark cool area) *Many essential oils are antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral. They are wonderful to use in home cleaning products *Most oils are not recommended for ingestion (i.e. don’t drink or eat them without a certified aromatherapist teaching you how) However, there are a few companies out there that have recipes and high enough grade oils that *should* be safe for ingestion. (Young Living is one such company. No, I don’t work for them. I’ve just used them) So what exactly IS an essential oil? A volatile aromatic organic compound. It is derived from any part of a plant or flower through a process of expression or distillation. Here are some of my favorite uses: Lavender- for cut scrapes and burns. For headaches and to relax. I put a few drops of lavender on my pillow or in a bath. Tangerine- for energy. If I’m having a difficult time waking up in the morning, I’ll put a few drops on the floor of my shower, the steam helps dissipate the aroma through the room Eucalyptus- to clear sinuses, to relax. I make something similar to the old Vicks shower disks with Eucalyptus. Tea Tree- for acneic or oily prone skin. Helps to control oil production, and kill p.acnes bacteria that cause blemishes Peppermint- headaches. I usually use a drop of peppermint and a drop of vanilla on a heating pad Here is short list of what oils are commonly used for what: Low Energy Orange/tangerine, Peppermint, Rosemary, Lemon, Eucalyptus Stress/Anxiety Basil, Bergamot, Clary Sage, Jasmin, Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Chamomile, Rose #aromatherapy #essentialoils

  • Summer Skincare Q and A: part 1

This is part 1 of a 2 part series. I’ve taken some questions friends have asked recently about summer suncare for your skin and answered them below. Question: I’ve notices fine lines around my eyes, how can I avoid accelerating this in the summer? Answer:Use an eye cream with SPF daily- Supergoop has one with an SPF 37 and Shiseido has one with SPF 34 (and yes, this means you’ll need an eye cream for day, and for night…don’t panic…just use the SPF in the day, and use one with firming and lifting ingredients at night)Wear sunglasses with UV protection (remember, both UVA and UVB need to be blocked) and glasses with brown or green tint lenses protect better than any other color lenses Question:Is my sunscreen from last year still good? Answer:It doesn’t expire for three years. HOWEVER, be sure to look at the manufacture date, not the date you opened it. It could have been sitting on a shelf for two years and now you’re past year three. Better to just buy a new one for this year. Question:I burned my scalp, how can I avoid this in the future? Solution:Treat as you would a normal sunburn for now…but next time, remember to wear a hat, or at the very least, use a hair product with SPF in it or rub/spray your sunscreen into your part. No, it doesn’t look great, but it looks a lot better than a sunburn feels.Pureology, Aveda and several other companies make sprays for hair with UV filters in it. (initially developed for color treated hair, they are good for any hair type exposed to sunlight) Question:How much sunscreen should I be applying? Answer: If it’s a cream, roughly one ounce. That’s the size of a shot glass, people. I love drink math in skincare. Question:Is an SPF 15 really that much less than an SPF 30 or SPF 50? Answer:SPF 15 blocks about 94% of the suns rays. SPF 30 blocks about 97%. SPF 50 about 98%. So yes, SPF 30 is better. But anything above that, for most people is just a marketing trick. For my very fair and burn-prone skin, SPF 50 is really worth it to me. But that’s really at your discretion. Question:How often should I reapply sunscreen? Answer:Every two hours, or after being in the water or perspiring profusely #skincare #spf #summer #pureology #aveda #supergoop #shiseido

  • Skin Care Basics Part 2: High Quality h2o

We hear it all the time, right? Drink more water. It's good for you. It's good for your skin. But no one ever tells us WHY. The average adult body is made up of 55-65% water, and 2/3 of that is contained within our cells. As we get dehydrated, the water is depleted from the cells, making us look tired, dry, itchy, sometimes increasing irritation in the skin, and increasing the look of fine lines and wrinkles. The skin is our largest organ, but our body recognizes that the internal organs need the water first, so if you're even slightly dehydrated, your internal organs are going to get the water first, and your skin will get it last. Our bodies are always seeking the proper equilibrium. If your skin is dehydrated, it can start to overproduce oil to "help" balance the skin as well. The average woman needs 2.7 liters of water per day. The average man needs 3.7 liters. (Mayoclinic.org) If you're now shaking your head at me and thinking "giiiiirl you're crazy, I currently drink 1-2 bottles of water a day...HOW am I ever going to drink that much water?" I've got you. First off, note that any fruit or vegetable you eat has water in it, and that counts towards your daily intake. I personally aim for half my body weight in ounces of water, and rely on fruits and veggies to make up the rest. Tips to get enough water: 1. keep a water bottle with you at all times. When it's empty, fill it up. 2. If you don't like plain water, try infusing yours with some cucumber slices, strawberries and mint, or another fruit combination. (LOVE pinterest for this. Just look up fruit infused water) 3. How do I keep track of my water consumption daily? I keep a strip of masking tape on my water bottle every day. I mark down how many times I fill my bottle. 4. Yes, this seems like a lot of water to some of you. I get it. It doesn't mean you need to start drinking that amount overnight. Start with one more cup a day per week. If you only drink 2 cups a day right now, I challenge you to drink 3 cups a day this week. Then next week, aim for 4 cups per day, etc until you reach the amount your body needs. Happy Chugging! #water #skincare #beautyblog #amberbuddpeterson #Amberbudd #wellness #amberbuddatelier #skincare
