650 What? What's a Microsecond?

What Does 650-Microsecond Technology Actually Mean?

If you've been reading our blog posts (or researching on your own!) about the Aerolase Neo, you've probably seen us mention "650-microsecond technology" more than once….and iif your reaction was "ooohhhhkkkaaaay Amber, but what does that mean?" that’s totally fair.

What Is a Microsecond?

A microsecond is one millionth of a second. Aerolase delivers laser energy in 650 microseconds, which is extremely fast. Our skin doesn’t even have time to recognize the heat! :)

Why Traditional Lasers Can Feel Uncomfortable

Many lasers deliver heat into the skin over a longer pulse duration. (longer micro- or milli-seconds) The longer heat stays in the skin, the more surrounding tissue heats up too, which can lead to more discomfort, more inflammation, more downtime, increased risk of irritation, especially in sensitive or melanin-rich skin.

Why Faster Pulses Change the Experience

Because Aerolase delivers energy so quickly, the skin doesn't build heat the same way it does with many traditional lasers.

Think of it this way: instead of a slow, sustained warmth spreading through the skin, Aerolase delivers quick, controlled bursts of energy before excess heat has time to travel into surrounding tissue. The result is a treatment that feels more comfortable, works more safely across a wider range of skin tones, and puts less unnecessary stress on the skin barrier.

Does It Still Actually Work?

YES! You know I’m a science nerd, AND I’m obsessed with results, so if it didn’t work, I wouldn’t have brought it into the spa. In this case, the speed does not compromise the results.

Treatments that get results shouldn’t always feel aggressive. I’m a big believer in supporting skin cell health before anything else. I wouldn’t offer something that relied on heavy trauma to force skin to respond. Aerolase aligns really well with that belief. Effective, comfortable, versatile, and skin cell health friendly.
