Acne Therapy Process

At Amber Budd Atelier, we utilize a three-step process for treating acne.

First, we onboard with a consent form, questionnaire, skin analysis, before and after photos, and review your home care regimen.

Second, we provide with a sensitivity test to ensure that you have no skin redness or severe skin reactions from the treatment. We follow the test with a hydrating treatment, peel treatment, and specialized acne extractions.

Our third and final step is providing you with homeware and aftercare support.

This is a full-spectrum 3-6 month process that requires weekly or bi-weekly treatment for the first six weeks. We serve as your acne resource center for weeks 7-26 providing small adjustments to your program ensuring continual reduction of your moderate to severe acne!

This process is essential for Acne Management because it allows us to understand your skin type and what products will work best for you. We also want to ensure that you are comfortable with the treatments we provide and that you have all the tools you need to continue your Acne Management journey at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Acne?

  • Acne is a common skin condition that affects people of all ages and skin types. Acne occurs when the pores on the skin become clogged with oil and sweat. This can lead to blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples. Acne can be treated with skin care treatments, at home products, over-the-counter medications, oral antibiotics, or prescription drugs. Some people also use natural remedies to treat acne.

Can I use products with Salicylic acid after having a treatment?

  • Our certified acne specialists will talk to you about recommended products post treatment of acne. Our recommendation takes multiple elements into effect to include; Acne Medications / Acne Drugs, Topical Antibiotics, associated topical therapies, use of oral retinoids, food intake, and lifestyle choices. Everything can contribute to acne!

Can Adults Suffer from Acne?

  • Yes! Adults can suffer from hormonal acne causing you to have moderate or severe acne.

What skin type does Face Reality work on?

  • Face reality works on all skin types including sensitive skin, dry skin, oily skin, and normal skin.

Can I use topical antibiotics or oral antibiotics with this treatment?

  • ...

Can I do Chemical Peels after getting Face Reality topical treatments at the Atelier?

  • ...

Can I take oral contraceptives or birth control pills while on Face Reality acne therapy?

  • Estrogen-containing, Testosterone-containing, or other hormonal therapies can increase the risk of developing acne. If you are using these medications, you may want to consider using a different form of birth control.

  • Face Reality Acne therapy is an excellent way to achieve clear skin, and it is safe to use while you are on estrogen-containing oral contraceptives or other hormonal therapies. However, if you are concerned about the potential risks of taking these medications, please speak with your doctor before starting Face Reality acne therapy.

What is Acne Vulgaris?

  • Acne vulgaris is the scientific name for what most people know simply as acne. It is a very common skin condition that is characterized by the presence of comedones, papules, and pustules. Acne vulgaris typically affects the face, chest, and back. Acne is caused by a combination of several factors, including an overproduction of sebum, clogged pores, and the presence of acne-causing bacteria. Acne vulgaris management typically involves the use of topical therapy, such as benzoyl peroxide or retinoids.

  • In more severe cases, a treatment regimen may be required. With proper treatment, acne vulgaris can be controlled and its effects minimized.

What kind of skin conditions can't our acne treatments treat?

  • Acne scars are one type of scarring that our acne treatments cannot treat. Acne scars are typically caused by inflammatory acne, which damages the skin and underlying tissues. When the skin heals, it remodels itself, and sometimes this process is imperfect, leading to the formation of scars. There are several types of acne scars, including atrophic scars, hypertrophic scars, and keloid scars. Acne scarring can be difficult to treat, and often requires a combination of treatments, such as dermabrasion, laser resurfacing, and injectable fillers.

  • We also can not treat other musculoskeletal and skin diseases. If you are concerned either of these, we recommend consult with a dermatologist or primary care physician to discuss your treatment options.

What are Retinoids that treat acne?

  • Retinoids are a class of medications that are derived from Vitamin A. Topical retinoids are commonly used to treat acne by helping to unclog pores and reducing dead skin cells. They can also help to reduce inflammation and redness. Retinoids are available in both over the counter and prescription forms. The most common OTC retinoid is retinol, while tretinoin is the most common prescription topical retinoid. Other prescription retinoids include adapalene and tazarotene. Retinoids can cause side effects such as dryness, redness, and peeling of the skin. They should be used as directed by a healthcare provider.

  • Does the Atelier frequently change the acne treatment regimen?

  • We take a long term approach to the treatment of acne to ensure the highest probability of success. We will change your topical treatment and and acne treatment regimen when we have reached the effectiveness of the regimen. We don't want to change products or acne treatment regimen frequently as that can limit the overall effectiveness of the process, delay acne treatment results, and can worsen acne over time.

Does our Treatment use Benzoyl peroxide?

  • Depending on your skin, and acne severity, our acne specialist may recommend benzoyl peroxide as part of your at home treatment regimen.
